Problems opening applications in windows 2k

Everytime i open an application it opens in a dos window.
The dos window flashes for only a couple of seconds then
goes away but to fast to read I am looking for a response
to tell me what the hell is going on with my computer and
a possible solution to the problem...........
 
1.Open command prompt window.
2. drag and drop your application in there
3. execute it
