PROBLEMS ON REPAIR INSTALL

I need help fast please. I had problems with the system and after doing
system restores through system restore it didn't seem to totally fix it. I
did a repair install of XP Home Edition. I am getting the ASMS error so
apparently it is not finding the CD drive. I tried the registry fix and
still no progress. This is the first stage of the install so I can't go any
further. I read how to go to system restore, but I can't figure out how to
load it, and it won't work in the recovery console. Is there a way to remove
the data from this failed repair and start again? I don't want to lose the
data on my daughters laptop and need to save it at all costs.

Which ASMS error?

You could try another repair install.

Otherwise, to preserve the data in the laptop, you could take the drive out,
buy an adapter so you can install it in a regular PC, and copy the important
data. Then you're free to format the drive and start fresh.
