problems of using public IPs on a lan

Hi.

I have a lan where all computers have a public IP.

What are the disadvantages of this? Well, I know that they won't be able to
access any internet server with an IP address like their lan. But apart from
this I don't think more disadvantages.

Thanks,

M.G.

Did you mean a private ip? A public ip is one with ranges *not* in the
192.168.x.x and 10.x.x.x ranges as well as those ranges reserved for
multicasting, etc. In other words, a public ip_address is routable on the
internet (its public). A private ip is reserved for internal, private
network use.

Insofar as private ip address schemes are concerned, i don't see any
disadvantages, i only see advantages (exception: a web server). A short list
of the benefits include: network isolation, private name resolution, single
point of entry and a choice of segmentation scenarios.

Also, whats makes you think that a host with a private ip_address can't
communicate with the internet? As a case in point, this station is at
192.168.2.11.

Thanks. What I meant is that my lan is 166.32.45.x.

So, I am using a public ip address. This lan has a router to go to internet.

Is there a problem (security or something like this) with this lan?

I think the only problem is that I can't go to the internet sites with the
address 166.32.46.x. Am I right?

Thanks,

M.G.
