Problems moving distribution lists between computers

I am trying to import a set of contacts and distribution lists between 2
installations of Outlook 2000.

I have made a copy of the source PST file and put it onto the target
computer. I've used the Import function on the target computer's
outlook installation to grab the contacts folder of the source PST file
and copy everything into the target PST file.

On first glance this is successful. The contacts are present, as are
fully populated distribution lists. At this point, the target contacts
folder is identical to the source contacts folder.

BUT, once Outlook has been closed down and restarted, the distribution
lists seem to empty themselves!!!

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Or can anyone suggest
an alternative way of importing contacts/distribution lists?

As posted here many many times - in Outlook do File-Open-Outlook data file.
Open the file you have copied. Then just COPY the contents of the contacts
folder from the old file to the new.

I'm afraid I've tried this already, right after posting my origina
message.

This also appears NOT to work, as after closing Outlook and opening i
again, all the distribution lists emptied themselves again.

Perhaps I should ditch Outlook in favour of something else

You tried what, exactly? Once you've tried to import a DL, it is toast
forever.
Ditch Outlook if you want. We don't care. But at least use it correctly
before you make your decision.

How can I use an application properly if I can't do something as simple
as import a distribution list?

Thanks for all your non-help everyone.

Importing has never been the correct way to transfer Outlook data. We have
documented that countless times. You have proven it to everyone yet again.
