Problems logging off

XP-SP2 Home Edition. Sometimes when either I or my wife try to log off back
to the Welcome screen we either get an error message "application failed to
initialize...." or nothing happens. Sometimes you just have to leave the
room and in a couple of minutes it will eventually change to the Welcome
screen. Seems like it is happening more and more. If I'm in a hurry I just
re-boot.Where do I look for the problem? Thanks, Steve T.

Sounds like something is hanging up when XP tries to close applications
to logoff. Try some clean boot troubleshooting to see if you can find
the culprit.

Hi,

Hit ctrl+shift+escape and look at the processes tab. One or more of these is
interfering with the logoff process. I would suggest that you "end" some of
them prior to logging off to see if the behavior changes. By selectively
killing them, you can hopefully isolate the one causing problems.
