Problems linking Excel ranges to Powerpoint

I have a set of charts linked to Excel. Some are specific charts from Excel
and they link with no problems. I have some charts that point to a specific
Excel range. These are not linking. Powerpoint is not seeing the file. I
have the Excel file open to help expedite the linking process. Does anyone
have a suggestion?

try linking to named-ranges (unique to the workbook environment)
