Problems faced in deploying Active Directory

I am Kalidas Goswami, an IT professional tryining to implement Windows 2000
active directory which will cater to close to 300 users.

Some of the problems faced while doing this activity are listed below :

1.While logged on as a user profile to a PC some programs like MS
Office,Seagate Crystal report writer,CD writing softwares etc are not
working,it seems that it is trying to run the windows installer to configure
the software for that profile but failing intermittently. On the contrary
those softwares are running perfectly while logged on as the local
administrator of the PC.

2.It has been observed that some operations in Internet Explorer like "open
in new window" are not working. Also it has been seen that pop-up messages are
getting blocked and also "onmouseover" events are not working. All these
things are happening when a user is logged on as user profile(to the domain)
but not when the user is logged on as local administrator.

A quick response will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation.

It sounds like you may have some issues with your profile. Have you defined
roaming or mandatory profiles within your Ad environment?

Go to Active Directory Users and Computers, select a user and go to the
profile tab. Check to see if the profile is pointing to a network location
instead of just being blank. It doesn't hurt to be remote but there could
be problems if the user doesn't have proper permissions on the remote
location.

Once you have gone to your location for the profiles look for the ntuser
file. If it has a .man ending then you can't change anything (Mandatory)
profile.
