Problems detecting Logitech Trackball with USB

I have been having problems with PS/2 logitech trackball to be
recognized by the USB port on XP with SP2.......??? The system is
Compaq r3000z with Athalon64. I have tried updating the driver and
installing the drivers manually. I also updated Nvidia chipset as
well... Now I heard a rumor that XP sp2 had a USB conflict. Still
researching the problem and waiting for answers.

1st thing to try is to go into the device manager and disable the USB
Error Reporting.It's not needed.
