Problems deleting file

S

scott

I have a file I cannot delete. The file path is:

C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Local
Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
\6P89STCV

And the name is:
site=evite&pagepos=195&adsize=120x600&adsize=160x600&conte
xt=dinner_top&template=dinning_out&loc=template&brand=evit
e&enum=5&TransactionID=8242337307&hints=fine+wines%2Cg[1].

When I highlight the file and press delete key, nothing
happens.
When I try to delete the folder it's in I get Error
deleting file. Cannot delete site_e~1. Cannot find the
specified file.
When I right click the file my only options are Open &
Send To, no rename or delete.

Thanks for any inforamtion concering this issue.

Yes, I have logged on as Admin in safe mode and safe mode
command prompt only. I still can't delete the file. What
is curious is the file name when I look at it. Is it a
file from the Evite web site? And the name is site=e....
and when I try to delete the folder it is in, it says
Cannot find the file site_e.....

Hi, Scott. You need to clean up your computer by removing spyware.
Please note that in the instructions I say to do this in Safe Mode. You
will be able to delete the file you mentioned in Safe Mode, too.

remove spyware with Spybot Search & Destroy from
www.safer-networking.org and Ad-aware from www.lavasoftusa.com. Be sure
to update these programs before running them. These programs are free,
so run them both since they complement each other. It is best to run
antivirus and spyware removal tools in Safe Mode. You may also want to
run CWShredder and HijackThis from http://aumha.org/freeware.htm.
Although CWShredder is no longer being updated, it will still clean
older variants of the CoolWebSearch malware. Please read the
instructions carefully. Also, make sure you've visited Windows Update
and applied all security patches. Do not install driver updates from
Windows Update. Make sure you are running a firewall and have a current
antivirus installed using updated definitions.

I am having the exact same problem. I have about 10 files in 6
different ie subfolders in my temp directory. Can't delete them, can't
rename, nothing. My Norton defs are at 9/1, scan is clean (done in
safe mode), updated adaware today and ran a scan (also in safe mode) -
found a few reg keys which I deleted. Ran windows update. Didn't need
any "critical" updates - I had just applied them 2 weeks ago.
Rebooted. Still no luck. Can't figue it out. Let me know if you find
anything and I will do the same.

Hi Scott,

This utility removes/cleans Content IE5 files:

Removes your Internet history in Internet Explorer. Clears the address list
drop-down, cached files, history and cookies. In Windows it clears the TEMP
folder and Recycle Bin, the run history, recent documents, and find files
history. It also deletes locked files ("index.dat" and files that are in
use by applications).

If none of the other answers work for you, try searching for this small
program, delinvfile. This deletes just about anything, wether it is in
use or in your case it has a very long file name.
