I have Comcast cable modem and i want to get a 2nd PC in my house onto the
internet.I have a Lynksys Etherfast Cable Router. I am running Windows XP
Home on my pc and when i plug myself into the router i can get on the
internet with no problems. But when i plug my roomates PC into the router, she
cant access the internet. We dont want to network the pc's,we just want her to
be able to share the internet connection. I see activity on the router in the
port i have her plugged in to,and her Network adapter has a green light
showing activity. She is running Windows XP Pro.I have done this in the
past, about a year ago, with a former roomate and he was able to see the
internet with no probs,it worked just fine.Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Chris,

Do you know that the cable / port that your roomate's computer plugs into is
good? Swap cable / port between your computer and your roomate's.

Let's take a look at the IPConfigs for the two computers.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.

Cheers,
Chuck

Chris,

How is everything connected? From the ipconfig for your computer, it looks like
the cable modem is connected directly to your computer.

For best results, you should connect the router to the modem, and both computers
to the router. Both your computer, and your roomate's computer, should have
addresses issued by the router, and internet service thru the router.

Here are a few websites with useful tutorials:
