problems burning PS3 movie to DVD

Lily

Hi there,

I generated a Photo Story 3 movie file (.wmv) from 300 pictures. I used the
recommened setting "Computer profile 2 - for play back on computer (640 x
480)". The movie plays back smoothly and clearly on the computer.

Then I tried to burn the .wmv file to DVD. When I used the free software
DVDFick for this task, it couldn't add the .wmv file. The error msg is "This
file has no usable video track and cannot be added."

Then I tried another free software "Videos to DVD Converter v3.1" from
Koyote Soft, it also failed to work, the error msg is "Conversion critical
error. Can't get resampling context."

Finally I tried "Nero Vision 8", which luckily converted my movie file and
burned it on the DVD.

HOWEVER, the movie on the DVD shows many 1/4" wide vertical bars. The effect
is like putting a vertical blind in front of the photos and its slate is made
of crystal clear plastic. This is most obvious when panning sideways.

I'm doing these tasks on XP. Would you please shed some light?

Thanks a lot!

It sounds like your Photo Story may be corrupt in some way
but maybe the following info will offer something useful.

Does the following tutorial offer anything you have not tried?

Burn Your Photo Stories to DVD for Free
using Microsoft Photo Story 3 for Windows
http://pctoby.com/DVDPhotoStory.aspx

As you discovered...DVD Flick is apparently incompatible
with Photo Story .wmv movie files. But there is an alternative
if all else fails...import your PhotoStory .wmv file into Movie
Maker, drag it to the timeline and resave it in the .wmv format.
....File / Save Movie File...

Now...you should be able to burn your DVD using the
Movie Maker file and DVD Flick.

To create a basic Video DVD that should play in a free
standing DVD player...try the following...

First...read the DVD Flick Guide to familiarize yourself
with the program.

Open DVD Flick and insert a blank DVD in your burner.

If your computer's Autoplay window opens....just close it.

Click the Project Settings button and go to...Video /
Target format...residents of USA...choose...NTSC /
Accept.

Left click the Add title button and browse to your
Movie Clips and select the ones you want on the DVD.

You can arrange them by selecting one and then use
the Move Up and Move Down buttons.

Left click the Create DVD button / OK / Yes / Yes.

Wait while the DVD is created.

When the text "Finished Successfully" appears you
may close DVD Flick. Now you can eject your DVD
and play it in your DVD player.

Good luck.

Thank you, John!

I already visited pctoby.com, where I got the link to "Videos to DV
Converter v3.1" which doesn't work in my case.

I'll try your suggestion of importing the PhotoStory.wmv into Movie Maker. I
hope Movie maker won't do any compression when re-saving it, I really like
the picture quality of my PhotoStory3 generated .wmv file.

About the vertical lines/bars, I see them when playing the disc back on
computer but NOT on TV w/DVD player. Ideally, I'd like the disc to render the
same quality on both computer and TV. Any explanation or other suggestion?

Thanks again!

The viewing issue on your computer screen could
indicate that you need to update your video driver.
Reducing Graphics Hardware Acceleration is one
way to verify this.

If you are unhappy with the resolution of your saved
movie in Movie Maker...maybe using a custom profile
in Movie Maker would be worth a try.

Personally, I use the following .wmv profile
when saving movies.

Download from the following site...

Right click / Save as...drop it in the following folder:
