Hi

I have recently had problems burning DVDs with Nero. It used to work fine up
to a few days ago, but now every time I try to burn a DVD I get a message
saying the burn has failed, and then a incomprehensible log to save which I
can't make heads or tails of. I have tried reinstalling Nero but the problem
is the same. I am starting to think it is a problem with the drive itself.
Anybody got any advice??

Thanks for your replies

the latest version of 6 is buggy or you may need a new drive.
try one version earlier of version 6.

I'd guess a bad drive.

John,

I would be very cautious on this one.. I too had the same problem you're
having. Right out of no where I started haveing problems burning dvd's it
would mess up in the middle of burning and give me all sorts of funky errors.
I tried a different burning technology and it worked fine. I was about to
take my drive back and get a new one when I tried another burning software.
Something with Nero has been flakey lately. My only problem with it was
burning a dvd movie to a dvd with its built in compress and burn feature. I
ended up going with dvdshrink to do all my copying... by the way my copying
was not for illegal use it is so I don't scratch any of my originals and by
burning copies I can watch them instead of scratching up the originals. But
if you are having trouble burning data onto dvd's as well then you may try CD
Burner XP Pro. So here are the links to the programs that I just mentioned:

DVD Shrink

CD Burner XP Pro

Good Luck,

Even if you are posting from the horrible web interface, please reply to the
thread, and don't post your "reply" as a new post, and also quote the
relevant parts of the post you ARE replying to, so the thread keeps it's
integrity.

Thank you.

I didn't reply as a new post I replied to the thread
and also quote the relevant parts of the post you ARE replying to, so the thread > keeps it's integrity.

Is this better? I appologize, but I usually just reply and type my own
reply and erase everything he put. I only use the web interface so I'm
guessing that when you are seeing this you don't get the direct link to the
post that I'm replying to. Sorry for the messy post. I'll try harder, not
just hard!
Thank you.

Thank you for correcting me.

His headers say he did.

So why did it show up in my newsreader as a separate post with "RE"
instead
of "Re" in the subject?

He's using the Web interface and probably typed the RE: himself. I don't
think the CDO program puts Re: in.

Thanks for all your advice. I tried to burn a copy of my dvd with dvd shrink,
but it kept failing. Something about cyclic redundancy error. It looks as if
my drive has had it. I am bit worried because my dad was messing around
trying to dust out the inside of the pc about 2 weeks ago, and although he
had an anti-static wrist band on, the pc was not plugged in, and he only
connected it to the frame of the pc. I think he might have damaged it with
static. Is there any way to prove that the dvd drive is faulty, beyond all
doubt? Don't want to fork out for a new one if it isn't the cause of the
problem.

Best way to prove it is (or is not) the drive would be to
a) try a different drive in that computer and
b) try that drive in a different computer - see if the
problem stays with the computer or goes with the
drive. The good news is that a new DVD burner these
days just is not that expensive - $30-50 for a number
I have seen recently (I remember paying $350 for my
first 2x CD Rom READER a number of years back).

mikey

the last version of nero 6 is buggy try an earlier version especially when
try to use shrink with it

It turned out to be the hard drive failing. It totally went and have
installed a new one, and now nero works fine.
