Problems after upgrade

Jim

I recently upgraded my laptop from w2k pro to XP pro.
There have been a few problems since then where the user
accounts app will not open and everytime I try to access
the internet, it asks to download an .asp file and gives
a message such as "file download" - www.msn.co[1] and
then loads of browser windows start opening and closing.
It eventually gives a message of Generic host process for
Win32 cannot start and shows countdown window to restart.
It looks very much like MS Blaster but it doesn't show it
as a process running in Task manager. I have taken out
system restore and run fixblast.exe. It doesn't find
blaster.
I have also tried to open Windows "services" app but it
shows the snap in has failed. I cannot find rpc to stop,
restart or do anything. Sorry for the long essay.... I am
trying to avoid a complete format and re-install. Any
help appreciated. Thanks in advance. Jim

I decided that I wasn't going to get anywhere with
this.... so fdisk'd and formatted hard drive then did
clean build - works fine now. Dodgy install probably
causing problems before.
