Problems after a HD failure

I stored all my docs/pics/music on another hard drive but it failed. Didnt
it cause problems , the system slowed to a death march and it was only after
disconnected the sata cable that I could even boot to Vista. Now I keep
moved the location for my music/pics.docs etc back to the default location
( users on c drive ) but someone I still am having problems in 2 areas. One
is when booting it slows just before the final screen and get an error
message about unable to locate D: users/desktop ( yes...D drive is the one I
removed ). Also in IE I can access or save favourites.

Any suggestions

It's probably a good thing you made a backup of your docs/pics/music so WHEN
your drive fails, you have another copy???????????
