Problem working with open Word document

Jack R.

For the past few months, whenever I try do perform a menu
action (eg. Save, Print, etc.) for a newly opened Word
document the blue bar at the top of the page starts
blinking and nothing happens for 2 or 3 minutes. The
blinking eventually stops and I can work with the document
normally. The only thing I can do to stop the blinking
(other than to wait) is to go to Task Manager and stop the
program.

I reinstalled MS Office 2000 thinking it may have gotten
corrupted, but that did not fix the problem. Can anyone
help or point me to a possible source? Thanks.

It sounds like you have a macro or add-in doing something odd. As a quick
check, run word using the /a switch (Start > Run: Winword.exe /a). If the
problem has disappeared, check Normal.dot and and add-ins listed under Tools

This is usually caused by the Office Plug-in in Norton AntiVirus. See "Title
Bars Flash, Word Becomes Unresponsive, or Word Cannot Close" at
