Hi everybody.

I've got a Celeron 1.1 GB processor, 256 MB of RAM, Win XP
with SP1, Virus free, defragged Win XP Pro system that
takes about two minutes to boot up.

Using MSCONFIG I've eventually narrowed it down to the
WorkStation service. When it's enabled the system takes
two minutes to boot. With it off it takes 30 or so
seconds.

The first question is, has anyone run into this and
(hopefully) found a quick and simple solution for it?

The second question is, if the answer to number one
is "No" what are the ramifications of turning off the
Workstation service completely? Sorry for the newb
question, but I've never had to deal with it before, so
I'm painfully unaware of what it's for.

Thanks for your help

<G> Okay, let's not do that then.

Any idea why it's causing the system to take so long to
boot?

There's no network connected at the moment. The system
has the Pro version of Ad-Aware and Ad-Watch running on it
so I'm fairly confident that there's no scumware on it.

I've been hunting around for references, but the
words "workstation" and "service" don't make for a very
precise Google search.

Any ideas?

Not recommended - disabling or stopping the workstation
service.
