Problem with WinPoet and Raspppoe

I have W2K on my Dell desktop. I also have an earthlink (netcom) DSL account
I used to use WinPoet to connect to the internet. About a year ago, WinPoet simpl
stopped working. After discussing the issue in detail with earthlink, I was told tha
W2K and WinPoet don't like each other. Apparently, earthlink has had several o
these cases. After running WinPoet for a certain number of times, it just stops working

Earthlink recommended that I use Raspppoe, which I did and it worked fine and withou
any problems, until last night. It simply stopped working

I tested the modem with a different computer and it works fine.
I ran some diagnostics on the network card, and it is also fine

Now I'm left to conclude that W2K decided it had enough of Raspppoe (just like WinPoet before)

Is there any fix for this issue for W2K

Is there an alternative to WinPoet and Raspppoe

Thanks for any suggestions

I feel your pain. PPPoE = stinky

Save yourself some headaches and get a soho Cable/DSL router. The Linksys
models all have the ability to perform PPPoE authentication for you. You
would then remove PPPoE from your PC(s) and connect directly to the router
via ethernet. This would also allow you to share your connection without ICS
and would isolate your network on a private IP subnet.

The cheap linksys 4-port router can be found for $50.
