problem with windows XP Security Update

M

MZB

Ran it today as new updates just came out.

There were 5, but one of them keeps failing:

KB913446.

This is failing on my desktop and my laptop.

Suggestions (I ran my AVG anti-virus and it says no viruses)

Post your query (if you haven't) on microsoft.public.windowsupdate

If you continue to have this problem go to
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...date for Windows XP (KB913446)&DisplayLang=en

and choose the update that matches your Operating System (OS). Download
it and then install it. After installing it gives you a check box that
reads do not restart system. Check this and click finish. Select the
install file, it is probably on your desktop (unless you specified
another location) and hold the shift key and press delete. This
permanetly deletes the install file off your computer and you still
have your system updated with that file. Now restart your system and
continue your tasks.

According to my experience, they've only just put that one up - thus until a
few minutes ago if you clicked the link for more info, you got taken to the
default Security Bulletin Search page. Now you get taken - in my case - to
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...74-c37b-472b-bb10-71d4680680a7&DisplayLang=en.
Until a few minutes ago you could find it at the v4 Corporate Windows Update
site and go through the routine of obtaining it, until clicking 'Download',
when the process immediately exited. I daresay it works now.

Why delete it? Do you feel that is an essential part of updating? I find it
curious you felt the need to stipulate it. And sign yourself as an IT
Specialist. Usually only bullshitters do that.

FWIW, Microsoft found and fixed the problem that was causing the failure:

You can now get KB913446 to install through Microsoft Updates.
