Problem with USB-Hub: USB-Hub voltage above standard. Please deaktivate USB-Hub

Hi guys

I have the following problem that my Win XP SP2 PC tells me that USB-Hub's
voltage is above standard and I should deaktivate it. The result of this
problem is that that my USB mouse doesn't work anymore except I restart the
PC and then it works until the same problems occurs again.

PS: On this USB-Hub (passive internal one) I've plugged a scanner with 500
mA use and my mouse with 100 mA = 600 mA, but the Hub only provides 500 mA.
It has worked this way for about 2 years without a problem.

What's the cause of this problem and what I can I do to solve it?

I am grateful for all possible explaination and ways to solve it.

Have a nice day!

That's very unlikely. Windows may complain that a device is
pulling to much current from an USB port. I even doubt if there
is an (internal) way for the OS to measure the USB voltage,

Yet an aging scanner may increase it's current consumption.
There are several work arounds:
- USB duplo cord. (A cable with 2 flat plugs on one side; draws
power from 2 USB ports together)
- External active hub (An external hub that comes with it's own
power supply)
- Replace the scanner (as an increase in current demand is
indicative of end-of-life)

You seems to have problem right there, cuz 500mA is the standard of *each*
computer USB port *not* each hub.

The HUB can go bad over the time, so if you think something is wrong with
the HUB then try other. Or you can connect the printer or mouse directly to
the USB port to see if it helps.

- Each USB connection will give you 500mA *not* per HUB

- If the HUB has 4 USB connectors then each connector will have its own
500mA.
