Problem with uninstalling XP Service Pack 2

I recently intalled SP2 on my laptop, however it caused problems with the
power. Instead of using the AC power it relies totally on the battery. This
means not only will the laptop not power for very long (the battery lasts
approx 5mins) but it will also not charge it either.
My question is that while uninstalling SP2 the power cut off during the
'Copying Files' stage. At such a critical point do you think that XP will be
able to run again when I eventually get a new battery? And if it doesn't
will there be any way to reinstall windows without wiping the previously
saved information on my hard drive?

Many thanks,

Sounds like the power unit has failed rather than an SP2 problem, especially
if the battery will not charge

I am also having a battery charging issue after updating to SP2. Mine relies
totally on AC and will not change to "charging" mode. Does SP2 do someting
to the ACPI Power management system?
