I have Windows Vista Home Premium and sleep option actually doesn't work.
There seems to be no problem as far as settings are concerned and when I
press "sleep" the screen goes off as it should. However, it opens up again as
soon as it goes off, as though I moved the mouse or pressed a button. I've
tried to hold the mouse in the air as to not accidentally move, but in
vain... Please help me!

Hi Orpheas,

This could be caused by a setting in your BIOS called 'Wake On Lan'. Refer
to your motherboard manual for instructions on entering your BIOS. This
involves pressing a key as you start your machine, usually Del or Esc. Go
through the menu options until you come to this setting. Make sure that you
set this to 'Off' or 'Disabled'. Save changes and reboot your machine. Next
time you try 'Sleep' your problem should be gone.

Thank you for your help, but it didn't work... I went to th BIOS, but I found
no setting 'Wake on LAN'. I found 'LAN boot ROM', but I suspect it has
nothing to do with my problem. Either way, this setting was already set to
'disabled'. The problem persists... If anybody has any other solution, you
are very welcome to help. ;-)

Go to Device Manager, expand the options by Mice and Pointing Devices, right
click your mouse and select Properties, go to Power Managment Tab and uncheck
the box "Allow this device to wake the computer".

Repeat is similar manner for your keyboard.

You will now need to use the power button on the front of the computer to
wake from sleep.

Hope this helps.

Thank you man! this solved my problem! But I have another pestering question:
In my computer, the trick works by only disabling the mouse, the keyboard
doesn't interfere. However, even though I have set the keyboard to be able to
wake the computer, I can't wake it using the keyboard! What should I do? Note
that i already have updated my keyboard, so it doesn't have to do with it.

Go to Advance Power Settings.
Set hard drive to turn off a minute or 2 before sleep.
Set Hybrid and Hibernate modes to "Off"
Under USB settings select "Disable"
Under Multimedia select "Allow ....."

Don't have a good solution for you. I just set my keyboard to allow it to
wake from sleep and it does not do it.

As I recall, I did try to find a solution for this when I had the original
problem of random wake from sleep but never could find one. So I just
disabled this feature for both the keyboard and mouse and now use the power
button to wake from sleep (this does work fine as long as you use a momentary
push, and not a longer button push that will lead to a reboot). Once I got
used to it, this is very convenient. But if this isn't ok for you, I don't
know how to solve the issue.

Good luck.

I've already set the keyboard's option to 'allow this device to wake the
computer', but it doesn't work... But thank you either way!
