problem with saving as in powerpoint

I am trying to "save as" a file in MS Powerpoint 2000 but the system freezes
and Powerpoint crashes. The error message says "Microsoft Visual Basic: an
unexpected error occurred, I/O error 6" Happens with all PPT files. Kindly
advise. Do I need to reinstall Powerpoint? Tried loading the MS patch SR-1
but nothing was improved.
