Problem with Notification Area

I've just reinstalled Windows XP.

I've found that NO icons are displayed next to the clock, and if I go to properties, the 'Hide Inactive Icons' option is greyed out.

I've scoured the internet and newsgroups, but none of the remedies I've seen mentioned worked. This includes removing uPnP.

As you can imagine, minimizing MSN Messenger is annoying as I can't click the icon! Anyone know how I can solve it?

I am logged in as a user with Administrator rights

I sorted the problem now

I created a new user and they're Notification area worked fine, so I just copied all my things over from my old account to the new one

Hardly ideal I know, but it's sorted now, and was less hassle than another reformat.
