Paddy

Hi. I am using windows xp on both of my computers. I am using the Westell
Versalink Gateway and I can set up a network from computer A so that I can
access it on computer B. But the problem is I cannot set up a network from
computer B to A. Any time I try to access it, I get this error message
saying,"(\\paddy is not accessible.....contact administratior... and what
ever) I also want to know if I can set up a network that runs on both
computers.
I want to share a printer betweent the two computers but since I cant get
that error message off, I can do it.I really need any help relating to this.
I am a novice in networking so bear with me.
Any help is welcomed

Thanks.
Paddy

Hi Paddy,

I tore my hair trying to do the same with two computers running XP. One had
(A)SP2 (Norton Antivirus ON and windows firewall ON) and the other one had
(B) SP1 (Norton antivirus ON, Norton internet security ON and Window firewall
ON)
I am using a D-Link Router Di-524.

After setting up the networks on both computers (Workgroups should have the
same name)
-I could see on (B): both computers but could not access (A)
--I was getting the same message you are getting when trying to connect (A)
-I could see on (A): (A) only

I tried to open LAN to LAN ports on the router trying different configs, but
NADA
I turned Norton Internet securtity Off on (B), that did not get me anywhere
either.
The only thing that suddenly "unblinded" computer (B) and at the same time
gave permission to computer (A) was to disable windows firewall on computer
(B).

Now, I understand that disabling the firewall (this was on computer (B)
running SP1, SP2 Firewall did not seem to be a problem) can be scary but you
are behind a router and if you are running Norton internet security you
should be fine.

I am not an expert as you can guess but I hope this will help.

Cheers

Greetings All !! I have the same "hair-pulling" reaction to trying to set up
a peer-to-peer network between two XP-PRO's. Where all the help and wizards
say there should be an "incoming connections" item under Network-Connections"
in the Control Panel....it just isn't there. I get the same \\comp1... not
accessible...\\comp2... not accessible error on both sides. Comp2 will
occasionally see comp1...I can see it in the network connections in the
explorer but when I click on it..->> not accessible. Due these two other
machines are not connected to the I-Net, it turned off all virus/firewall,
etc...but I'm still missing something. I have set the folders for sharing, I
have both in the same work group, I have tried both manual and auto
addressing (TCPIP), ....(can anyone out there help me ????)

Thanx !!
