I wanted to play a two player game {moo2). I was told that
all i needed was to obtain a crossover lead and connect
the two laptops. I did this and ran the network setup but
it didn't recognise that there was a cable!

Would i need to get a network card aswell or could it be
that my friend is using Windows Me and i'm on XP

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first question I always ask is if you can ping. if not, compare ipconfig
/all or post it here.

I'm assuming you already have a Network card in both
systems...maybe onboard and that you see a link light on
the network card which indicates you have a connection

I'm also assuming you have a good x-0ver cable. Sometimes
they make packaging mistakes and put straight thru cables
in the package.

Open a command prompt at both systems.

On the XP system type ipconfig
on the ME system type winipcfg

This will give you your IP address.

The numbers have to be very similar. There will be 4
numbers seperated by periods. In most cases the first
three numbers much match exactly and the last number must
be unique. You can assign the numbers manually, but only
according to certain rules.

This is known as subnetting and you will need to
understand it so do a little on-line research about IP
addressing.

What is possible is your friend or you is using an address
assigned by DSL or your parents home network.
