PROBLEM WITH MY PC'S NETWORK

R

RICHY

I HV A NETWORK OF ABOUT 10 PC'S IN MY OFFICE.WHEN I SET UP
THIS NETWORK EVERYTHING WAS RUNNING FINE,I COULD BROWSE
THE NETWORK,COULD EVEN SEE ALL THE OTHER SYSTEMS AND
ACTUALLY GO INTO ANY OF THEM.BUT ALL OF A SUDDEN WHEN I
TRY TO BROWSE THE NETWORK I GET AN ERROR MESSAGE WHICH
SAYS-SERVER IS NOT CONFIGURED FOR TRANSACTION.ANY SYSTEM I
TRY TO BROWSE INTO THE NETWORK WITH STILL GIVES ME THIS
ERROR MESSAGE.I HV CHECKED ALL THAT I DID B4 AND HV EVEN
REDONE THEM YET NO SOLUTION,THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE.I
HV EVEN CHANGED MY WORKGROUP FROM workgroup TO ANOTHER
NAME AND YET STILL THE SAME THING.I HV DISCONNECTED OFF MY
INTERNET ACCESS FROM THE CISCO SWITCH-AS AM ON A LAN AND
HV EVEN USED A HUB INSTEAD STILL NO SOLUTION.I HV TRIED TO
JUST SETUP THE PC'S WITHOUT ANY INTERNET ACCESS SO THAT I
COULD SEE IF ATLEAST I CAN BROWSE THE OTHER SYSTEMS BUT
STILL NO WAY.I STILL GET THE ERROR MESSAGE-SERVER IS NOT
CONFIGURED FOR TRANSACTION.I WILL APPRECIATE IT IF SOMEONE
WILL SURELY COME TO MY AID AS THIS PROBLEM WAS NOT THERE
EVER B4 IT JUST HAPPENED AND AM NOT SURE OF WHAT TO DO
AGAIN.I EVEN WENT AS FAR AS REFORMATTING SOME OF THE
SYSTEMS TO SEE IF THAT WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM BUT IT STILL
DIDNOT SOLVE IT.I NEED HELP FOR AS IT IS IT MAKES IT VERY
DIFFICULT FOR US TO SHARE FILES AND FOLDER,PRINTER ETC IN
THE OFFICE.BUT WHEN I CONNECT BACK THE INTERNET ACCESS
BACK TO THE LAN SWITCH WE DO BROWSE THE INTERNET VERY WELL
BUT STILL CANNOT BROWSE INTO OUR SYSTEMS THEREBY MAKING IT
QUITE DIFFICULT AS THE AIM OF HAVING THE NETWORK IS BEING
DEFEATED AS WE NOW MOVE AROUND THE OFFICE WITH DISKETTES
TO GO COPY FILES AND PRINT.WE ARE RUNNING WINDOWS 2000 AND
WE HAVE INITIALLY ONLY CFMN,FILE AND PRINTER SHARING AND
TCP/IP INSTALLED,ALL SYSTEMS HV DIFFERENT NAMES BUT
ONE "workgroup" WORKGROUP NAME.WHAT DO I DO NOW. RICHY

Hi - ouch, my eyes hurt!

Please repost without the caps lock on (it's hard to read and is considered
shouting), and divide your message into separate paragraphs to make this a
lot easier to read. When you post in here, pretend you're writing an essay
for a hard-to-please English teacher and you will get a lot more help.

Note that there's a ten-concurrent-connection limit to Win2k - I'd say you
may want to consider getting a server OS.

This generally means that the IPC$ is not shared on the computer that you are trying
to access - use [ net share ] to view current shares. On that server run the command
[ net share IPC$ ] to see if it helps or uninstall and reinstall file and print
sharing on it. Also verify that the server service is running. You can use
services.msc to access the services or use [ net start server ] at the command
prompt. If the server service is already running it will tell you so. Also check
Event Viewer on the server that users are trying to access to see if there are any
pertinent errors in the system or application log. --- Steve
