Problem with microphone in PPT

Hopefully I have the right discussion group..

I cannot get PowerPoint 2003 (or 2000) to receive sound through/from an "MXL
USB.006" microphone. When testing the mike, under "set microphone level," the
message reads "Powerpoint is not receiving sound from the microphone..." I've
checked the audio settings and they seem to be correct (like the picture in
the instructions). The microphone does work in Window's sound recorder. Plus
I've recorded before onto this computer through powerpoint in a studio, but
not through the USB port. Please help!

Do you have any other audio input devices on the system? (Say an audio card
or a modem with voice.) PPT has a nasty habit of grabbing the wrong one.

Ah, I suspected as much. If you don't use this feature you might consider
going into the device manager and disabling that feature of the modem.

So I disabled the voice modem and still same old same old ppt message. Is
there any other evil hardware that might be confusing ppt?
