Problem with launching .chm help

Help associated with other programs don't run. Even the Help & Support Center
under the START menu doesn't run. When I tried to open any .chm files in the
\Windows\Help folder, it generates an error window under Help saying 'cannot
open the file: mk:@MSITStore:C:\Windows\help\*.chm' What can I do to restore
all help?
