Problem with large external harddisk (USB/Firewire)

Hello,

I have some Momobay CX-2 in use - enclosures for 2,5" HDs
with USB and Firewire-connectors. With my 40 GB harddisks
during the last years really no problems.
Since some weeks I have two brand new Samsung HM160JC
in use, both with two partitions. Today I have the second total
loss of the first partition of one drive. I had the same problem
with the other harddisk.
Are there any known issues with large harddisks (160 GB)?
I'm using as OS WIN XP.

Does anybody know a good recovery tool? The corrupted
partition is "untouched", so recovery should be possible...

Thanks for an answer in advance
Udo
