Hi there,

I'm having a problem opening anything that starts w/
javascript: like trying to open a link in an email, or
open the link "scan for updates" in microsoft.com windows
updates because they all start w/ javascript.

For example, when I click "enter the site" in
http://www.so-close.com/, nothing pops up. The bottom of
the screen just show javascript:launchSite(). Similar
problem exists when I try to click "scan for updates" in
windows update page. Please help. I count on you!

Thank you very much.

If you already have java script installed, then ignore this post. I
can't help.

Newer versions of Windows operating systems don't have java script
installed. I am guessing this from what I read when I d-loaded it - A
few years ago Microsoft put java script into their stuff. But I guess
they were sued for doing it. You have to d-load it and get it from
somewhere, but I am guessing not Microsoft. (maybe they have a link to
it, however). I am not sure if it all Windows XP versions that come
without it, or those released later.

Thank you for taking time and answer my question! I
checked in the internet options and javascript was
enabled. Does that mean that I have javascript already?
I don't understand what went wrong. Everything was
working fine about 2 days ago. I remember the things I
did were
1. I did the "3 steps to protect your PC" that
microsoft.com recommend (which enabled firewall and set
my computer to get automatic updates)
2. I ran a spyware/adware remover and system hijack
scanner.

but that shouldn't "mess things up" right?

Hi

You are thinking about Java, it is not the same as JavaScript.

All current MS OS comes with JavaScript builtin.

Thanks for replying!

I tried to download
http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/list/webdev.asp but
it still doesn't work.

What I don't understand is it works fine before!

After I did the "3 steps to protect your PC" as
recommended from microsoft.com and scan system hijack and
remove adware/hardware, then I started to have this
problem. Do you have any suggestions of what I should do
now? I check in the internet options and the scripting
are all enabled.

Thanks for helping.

Hi

If you have installed any anti-hijack or pop-up stoppers, uninstall them and
see if that solves your problem...

This is NOT TRUE!!! You are confusing JavaScript and Java which are
entirely different things. IE includes JavaScript, which is enabled by
default. Recent version of IE do *not* include Java, which can be
obtained here: http://java.sun.com/getjava
