Problem with Internet Explorer

Hello everybody,

I have the following problem :

When I go to a site that requires java support, IE closes down. It didn't do
it before, and it happened since I did a system restore.

What should I look for ? could anything have been disabled ?

anyone ?

You may need to re-install Java - which comprises JRE or J2RE (Java [2]
Runtime Environment) and JVM (Java Virtual Machine).

The latest version is being called 5.0 Update 1 by Sun but reports as
1.5.0_01.

Test it here... http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml

Am I right to understand the update you indicated only concerns JVM ?
If so, please tell me how I can reinstall/download JRE.
(sorry I am a newbie).

It's the whole Java package; JVM, JRE and Java Web Start. Together
known as JAVA 2 Platform Standard Edition Version 1.5.0 (build
1.5.0_01-b08).

When you install it you will have the choice of which browser(s) to
enable it for - I have mine set for IE and Mozilla. Once you have
installed it check Control Panel > Internet Properties > Advanced tab,
scroll down and you should see "Java (Sun)" with a check box under it
for the version you just installed. If it's not checked, check it and
reboot.

If you have an earlier version in Control Panel use Add/Remove to
uninstall it as it's probably broken.
