Problem with Install shield?

I haven't been able to find this answer anywhere. My girlfriend just
re-installed XP Home on her laptop, she installed a few programs (trillian,
adaware, etc) , downloaded all the MS updates.. then I have no idea what she
did, but somehow I think she may have corrupted or deleted the Install
Shield. When she tries to install programs (such as Itunes, her camera
software, Ipod software, etc) they encounter errors and terminate before the
install screen ever shows up. It says a file transfer error has caused the
install to terminate early. So, anyone have ANY idea how to fix this one?

I had a similar problem on my Win98 SE pc with updates from Turbotax,
Bottom line was a support person had me go to program files-commom files-
and delete the installshield directory. The TTax update then worked. I then
restored the directory from the recycle bin and have added and removed
programs since without issue. Even did a recent update for TTax,
