Problem with importing archived data (.pst file) into Outlook

I have unsuccessfully tried to retrieve crucial emails
from an archived .pst file.
I have followed the following steps:
1. copy pst file from CD to PC
2. unchecked read-only attribute
3. When importing, I get the message: "The file (name) is
not a personal folders file.
4. I have used the Inbox Repair Tool to repair the pst
file.
5. Still no success importing it.
6. When trying to import into Outlook I cannot select the
folder to import from, the only option showing in
the "Import Personal Folders" window is "Recovered
Personal Folders".
7. Once I hit OK, there is no imported data showing in my
Folder List.
Am I missing something here? HELP!

Yes, never import native Outlook Data. Use File->Open->Outlook Data File.

I have tried File->Open->Outlook Data File. After I
selected the .pst file, nothing happens. No data appears
on my Outlook Folder List.
Any suggestions?
