I have a XP machine and Win98 SE machine linked in a small home
network. The XP machine has access to internet through a cable modem,
while the Win98SE machine has internet access through the XP machine.
The setup has been working without any problem for months, until about
just an hour ago. For reasons unclear, the Win98SE networked machine
"suddenly" lost its internet access. The connection between the two
machines are still working, i.e. they see each other on the network
and can transfer files to each other.
I tried running XP's "set up a home or small network" on the XP
machine, then put the XP CD into the Win98SE machine to do the same,
it stil doesn't work. The small "internet connection" icon that used
to appear in the system tray in the Win98SE machine is no longer
there, despite running XP CD setup multiple times.
I am puzzled, because I have no clue what changed. Regardless of
what's changed, why does running "set up a home or small network" not
working?
