My daughter has a disk with revision for college which she has been using.
Today the disk won't load and error message says that it is not formatted.
She doesn't want to lose all her work.
Can anyone please advise on how to get info from disk before trying to
reformat?
Thank you
Try some other floppies in the drive. If they read, then you know the
drive is ok, if not, the floppy drive will need replacing.
If the drive is ok, then the floppy disk itself is probably faulty and
you are in trouble. Whatever you do, *DO NOT* format the disk if asked
otherwise you will wipe all info on the disk.
Try your floppy on some other pc's and keep your fingers crossed; it
may read on another machine. If not, it is very likely you have lost
access to everything on that floppy.
Floppies are inherently untrustworthy and if you must use them, make
several back-ups on different floppies of reputable makes, Sony, TDK,
Memorex, etc.
If you can't afford to lose the info, there are companies advertising
on the Internet who claim to be able to recover data from faulty
floppies. It won't be cheap though. Good Luck.
