Problem with Excel file import

Tony Williams

I have imported a file from Excel into Access 2007 but have got a number of
"Type Conversion Errors" on a number of the records. The columns in Excel
are formatted as dates and some of the data has been imported successfully
whilst some hasn't. I've checked the data in the problem cells in the
spreadsheet and they all appear to be OK they look like dates and are shown
as formatted as dates. So why aren't they being imported? Can anyone suggest
anything I can do to resolve what the problem is?
Thanks
Tony

I've found the problem. The date format is dd/mm/yy yet some of the dates
have been input as mm/dd/yy. Is there anyway I can force these dates to
change? I've gone into Format cells and tried to reformat but it wont change
them.
Thanks Tony

You'll have to change them in the spreadsheet.

Format only affects how the value is presented, not how it's stored. Dates
are actually 8 byte floating point values, where the integer portion
represents the date as the number of days relative to 30 Dec, 1899 and the
decimal portion represents the time as a fraction of a day.
