Problem with DNS ?

J

John Williams

I have just started out with W2k and have a slight problem, which I think is
to do with DNS but I am not sure.

I have W2k setup with Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) and a W98 accessing
the internet through this. The W98 machine is able to browse many websites
BUT about a third of them seem to be unavailable to it. These websites are
available when I boot the W2k machine into W98, with ICS (i.e. W98 server,
W98 client).

The W2k machine is set to IP 192.168.0.1 and the W98 machine is set to
dynamic IP address, WINS gateway set to 192.168.0.1 and DNS gateway
192.168.0.1

Can anyone point me in the right direction please ???

TIA for you help.

John

Thanx for your reply Charles.....I am running W2k Pro and so have tried
inserting DNS of ISP into W98 machine but alas no result. Maybe if I send
in a few more settings next week you can put me straight because I have
tried every combination possible!

I am of course assuming that this is a DNS problem, is there anything else
that would allow partial internet access from the client machine and full
internet access from the W2k machine?

TIA again

There is some free "proxy" that you can setup on your
Win2K pro. Theses free applicatioons will share your
Internet Access.
