Problem with DirLock

I recently installed DirLock, (
http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=327790 ) a folder locking
program. Having found other programs of this type unsuitable, I was pleased
to find that DirLock did exactly what it was supposed to do. However, when I
did my monthly back up of my hard drive to an external HD, it came to an
abrupt end part way through when it came to a locked and hidden folder. Of
course, this may be a fault with the backup program (a commercial one from
Amacom.com) but I thought it worth mentioning in case anyone else using
DirLock encounters difficulties.

The folder is locked - presumably to keep people from seeing what's in
it? How "locked" would it be if someone could just copy the files in
it to an unlocked folder?

The program is doing exactly what you want it to do.

Why wouldn't it be capable of copying the folder to a "locked" folder? That
doesn't seem very handy. You have to remember to unlock the folder before
making a backup? I've never used DirLock so I don't know how it works.
Personally though, any folder important enough to lock to keep others out
likely is important enough I'd want a backup of.

I'm sorry, I didn't make myself clear in the first post. I am not
complaining that DirLock was unable to copy a locked folder, although this
would be acceptable provided the folder remained locked. My problem was that
rather than copying the folder (and keeping it locked), the backup of the
hard drive came to a halt when the folder was reached, so that instead of
backing up all the hard drive it stopped after completing about 40% and
annoounced that the backup was complete. Thanks for your interest.

Because once I copy the folder to, say, a thumb drive, I have many
more options to unlock it. In fact, if I have a Win95 (or earlier OS)
box, and I copy the folder to it (using modems, an ftp server,
whatever), unlocking it is trivial.

Okay - the backup software is a bit brain damaged. Try Karen's
Replicator. It just skips uncopyable files/folders/etc. - it keeps
going from there.

I'll try it to see if it what it does with a locked folder.

I don't know about folders, but it passes locked files for me every
day. (My own stupidity - I should close them before I go to lunch,
which is when I have it running.)
