Problem with database

I have an access database sent to me by a user. Either the user has played
around with it or it has become corrupted. Half the tables report that there
is no permissions to read or write them. When I go to Tools-User and Group
Permissions and then click the Owner tab, the tables with the problem report
the owner as unknown. I can't change the owner because I don't have
permission, I can't export or import or repair or recover the data through
any other means. Is there anything I can do?

For background info the database is normally Access97 but the user has
upgraded it to 2000. It uses one single password on the database and no
other security but the user has probably used a utility to crack it. The
database is accessed through a vb6 app so it contains only tables and views.

Many thanks in advance,
Michael

The user probably played around a bit. Perhaps running the security wizard.

Get them to send you the secure mdw file that they used.

That is what I thought at first but it looks like it was not the case. The
first thing I tried to do when I got the file was to repair and compact it.
It appears this caused the <unknown> user to appear. To solve the problem I
went back to the original file and just did a 'Save As' from within my vb6
app, which creates a new database and copies data over row at a time. Even
though the database was damaged and repairing it damaged it further, my app
was still able to copy all the data. Lucky :)
