Problem with controlling cursor and insertion point

I'm having a huge problem using Word on my Dell laptop. Originally, I
thought it was my inexperience at using the track pad, but it can't
be. Basically, while I'm typing, the insertion point often moves,
usually upwards, in the body of whatever text I'm typing (i.e., I end
of over-writing text). There is a pattern to this, meaning that for
several consecutive instances, it will go back to the same exact spot.
Yesterday, in mid-sentence, the document simply closed, as though I
had typed shortcut keystrokes. Someone told me that I may need to
reinstall my video driver.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks
John
