problem with changing screen resolution

how do i change the resolution of my screen to be higher
if the slider from 480x680 to 1040x1280 is not moving and
the properties button in monitor display tab is grayed
out?

You either need to remove and reinstall the drivers for your graphics card
or download the latest XP compatible drivers from the card manufacturer's
web site at which they should also have install instructions.
