Problem with Canon Easy-WebPrint

J

John Doe

I received Canon i9900 printer today and installed it today.
Everything works just fine except for Easy-WebPrint.

The CD came with Easy WebPrint v. 2.0.
When I tried to print a web page from IE6.0, it prompted the following
error:

*************
An error has occurred in the script on this page

Line 610
Char: 21
error: Access denied
Code: 0
URL file://C:\Program Files\Canon \Easy-WebPrint\PrintTempalte.htm

Do you want to continue running scripts on this page: yes or no
*************

So I updated Easy-WebPrint v. 2.5.0.25 (from my office Canon ip4000
printer).
I am getting the same error.
Please advise me how to fix this problem. TIA. John

-The short version-

It's buggered. When unbuggered there will be an update on this site.
http://www.canoneasywebprint.com/en/index.htm

-Detailed version-
You can not use Easy -Webprint on machines that have windows update KB
912812. This applies to win2000, xp, and win2003.
WindowsUpdate KB 912812 http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=912812

There is presently "no" resolution to the problem other than removing
security update KB 912812, or removing Easy-Webprint. Given this is a
critical update, i'd say remove ez-webprint and use the print preview
to make adjustments. Or download Mozilla Firefox which tends to be
better about printing webpages than Internet Exploder.

As soon as it's fixed, i'm sure it'll be posted on this site
http://www.canoneasywebprint.com/en/index.htm

----------
- Resolution - Short version -
1. It's buggered
2. Uninstall ez-webprint till it's fixed, or the critical update KB
912812.
3. Wait till it's fixed http://www.canoneasywebprint.com/en/index.htm

Zakezuke,

Thank you for your information.

Is Easy-webprint shareware? When I visited the above site, it does not
look free.
I got Easy-WebPrint which was bundled with canon ip 4000.
If Canon issues a fix, I expected to get a free download. What do you
think?

I believe that it only works with Canon printers. I tried it on my HP5P
laser and it didn't work. Had to use the Canon inkjet with it.

I can't speak for Easy-webprint as I don't use it... I don't use
internet explorer at all. But if it's anything like Easy-photo print
it's keyed to canon and bypasses much of the microsoft printing system
to print. It would be impossible for it to print on anything other
than a Canon printer assuming it's designed in the same way.

But it's commercial software, it comes free with the printer, and it's
a free download from the Canon site. It's not shareware, you can't for
example copy that cd that came with the printer and give it to someone
else. Well you could, and i'm sure they wouldn't care, but it's still
commerical software protected by copyright, and unless expressed only
the copyright holders can copy it. But it's not an issue as anyone can
download a copy from the website.
