Hello,

I am very new to computers, and I am not sure if I am
doing this email right. My grandson whom is a very
ambitious 19-year old, used my computer yesterday.
He shut the computer off as I asked him to do before he left.
Now when I started my computer this morning, I have
a naked women on my screen for the desktop!!!!!!!
How do I get rid of this. I don't want to start a fire
with my son in regards to his son doing porn on
my computer at this moment. But I will.
I am using a friends laptop computer now to type this. I
do not want to start my desktop computer up until I know
how to get rid of the image. I am a very angry 62-year old
to say the least with this. Also, is there anyway I can prevent
him from doing this again without telling him no when he wants
to use it?

Thank You

lol..... control Panel> Display> Desktop> background,
choose none or whatever you want !!

Hi,

Simply do one of two things:

1) Right-click the desktop, select properties. Go to the Desktop tab and
choose a new background.

2) Open a picture file of your choice, right-click it, use "set as desktop
background".

This is the best post I've ever read :). If you start up
your computer, make a right click on your desktop (not on
a symbole or desktop icon) and select properties (left
click). Click the 'Desktop' layer and you'll see the
image. Just select a different one. If you want to see if
there is any other crap from him on the computer, make a
right-click on start and select 'search'. In filename
put "*.jpg" (without the quotes" and in look in,
say 'local hard drives'. It'll will find a lot - sort it
by date. You do that if you right click on a blank space
in the right pane (where the results are) and
select 'arrange' and then select 'modified'. This should
give you everything. How to block him from doing it? Don't
let him use your computer. That will be the easiest way
for a beginner.

It sounds like your son went to a site that hijacked your desktop.

First, you need to get three free programs off the Internet. I suggest you
get them on you friend's laptop, then copy them to your computer for the
install.

The three programs are Spybot Search & Destroy (http://spybot.eon.net.au/),
Lavasoft Ad-Aware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/), and
Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html).

Now, onto you computer:
1) Enable your firewall (if you don't have one).
2) Install, update and run Search & Destroy
3) Install, update and run Ad-Aware
4) Install, update and run Spyware Blaster
5) Now, you should be able to easily change your desktop image.
6) Finally, create another administator account. (It's important that this
account be an admin account at this point. This is where you get sneaky.)

Log out of your current account and log into this new account. Start
Internet Explorer. Go to Tools, Internet Options, Security. Click on
Internet, then Default Level. Move the slider all the way up to High.

Now, log off and back into your account. Go to Control Panel, User Accounts.
Select the new account, then Change the account type. Change this account to
Limited and select the Change account type button.

While you are at it, hit the back button. Select your account. Select Change
my password.

Now the next time your son comes over to use your system, allow him to use
the new account. He will not be able to install software (neither will the
web sites), change your desktop, install viruses, or do anything else that
could be harmful.

The important thing to remember is to never give him the password to your
account. With that, he could undo everything you just did.

PS. While you are at it, you might want to get a decent anti-virus program.
It is likely that, he got one surfing the nefarious sites he went to.

PPS. You could also do what my parents did to my nephew...make him pay for
the damages and fix the computer himself. It's amazing how fast he manages
to save up for his own computer. :-)

Hi!
This is not the ultimate solution as the boy may again do the same thing.
Internet is the source of nasty things. So he has to be restricted there.

With Content Advisor of internet explorer activated, you can create a
list of Web sites that can always be viewed by your family. If someone
attempts to access a Web site that is not on your approved list, they
will be prompted for the Content Advisor Supervisor password to proceed.
Please visit the following link and go through the article and act
accordingly:-
"Browse the Web with Content Advisor"

Hello,

Thank you very much everyone for your help. It will
take me some time to follow all of the instructions
you guys put in here, but I will take my time with it all.
I have a lot of time these days. It may be time for me
to speak up about this to my son, my grandson sounds
like he needs a talking to.

Thank you again to everybody who answered my question.
I might have to ask more questions as I go through the
instructions.

A 19 year old "man" should be well aware that there are consequences for his
actions. Password protect YOUR computer by installing a bios password. Tell
your grandson that you did this because you found objectionable material on
YOUR computer, and because you don't feel that you should have to monitor
him, like a child.

Welcome to the joys of having your kids use your computer. This is why many
of us finally got a second computer, for their use only. :o)
He has changed your desktop wallpaper, something that teenagers (and
grownups) like to do quite often.
If you would like some lovely wallpaper to replace it with, send me a
personal email and I will send some along that you can use.
Remove the obvious from my email address to respond.
