Problem with Backup

Bud

I have tried to backup to an external drive using Vista (32), using tabs on
the control panel and get the message "Catastrophic Failure 0w8000FFFF",
indicating I have an error on the c drive. After calling Dell, I ran the
Drivers and Utilities Disk and did a total scan (over 12 hours worth).
Everything passed. I tried system reset to an earlier date; again I got an
"c drive" error. Dell said it is a know problem with backup. True? Is there
a fix? Who can I call? Thanks to anyone who can help.

I purchased DELL T7400 x5450 with Vista Premium on Jan8. Absolutely no
problem with any backup. Backing up to MyBook 500GB. I called them a couple
of times with no problems at all, just to ask "penetrating" questions.

What is the idea of backing up to the C: Drive? If you C: crashes, where
will you find your backup? If I were Vista would give you a double
catastrophic failure message. BTW, why did you replace "x" with an "w" in
the error code?

My apology. Did not read it carefully? You've got an external HDD to back
up.

Have you done chkdsk.exe /F ?

Perhaps it is a software problem?

Also by the way of reassurance,

I do have three more DELL, all GX-280 (4ears old) but still very fast (3.85
GHz, 2GB RAM, 833MB bus), all have Vista Ultimate, no problems with backup.

Hi Bud,

Which edition of Windows Vista are you using? Also, is this a file backup or
Complete PC (image) backup?

Thanks,
Christine

Thanks for your reply Christine,
Windows Vista Home Premium; file backup as per "Windows Back Up and Restore
Center"
