Problem with Autoloading a CD

Mort

In the past, when I would insert a CD containing a new program, the
drive would detect the CD and autoload the setup program. Now, when a CD
is inserted into the drive, NOTHING happens. Apparently the Autoload
feature is gone. I would appreciate any help you can offer as to how I
can re-activate this feature. I am using Win XP Home.

I tried going to My Computer and Right click on the drive. Then
Properties>Autoplay tab. The only options I see are for Music, Pictures,
etc. There is no way to set an autoload option to go to Setup on a new
program disk. In any case, the CD is not detected at all. It does,
however, display the contents of the disk in Windows Explorer.

Any help would be appreciated in reactivating the autoload function.

Thank you.

Have you tried burning a DVD? Some DVD software turns this feature off when
burining a DVD. Try editing the registry.
Here are the steps: Click on START, then RUN, in the blank box type
REGEDIT, click OK, click on the plus sign next to LOCAL MACHINE, then the
plus sign next to SYSTEM, click the plus sign next to CONTROLSET001, then
SERVICES, scroll down to CDROM, this time click on the folder CDROM, this
opens a box to the right. Double click the AUTORUN box. This opens box, for
value data, make sure there is a 1 in that box not a 0, if not put a 1 in
the box, also make sure the Hexadecimal button is selected, click OK. Go
back and do the same for CONTROLSET003.. Reboot the computer, put in a CD
and see if it auto loads...

Problem was corrected by making the following changes to the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom
Double click Autorun
Set value to "1" under Value Data
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Double click "NoDriveTypeAutoRun
Verify that value is set to "91" under Value Data
Close the registry editor
Restart Computer.
