Problem with ATI driver update from Windows Update

A recent check of Windows Update showed some new drivers
for my ATI (Radeon 9200 based) video card. When I
installed these and rebooted, I got "New hardware found"
for two "Unknown Devices" apparently located on the video
card, but the new hardware wizard could not find drivers
for them. I have subsequently installed the latest
drivers from the ATI site, but the "Unknown Devices" are
still there and Windows still cannot find drivers for
them. I don't seem to be experiencing any other problems.
Does anyone have any idea wha is going on?

Did you do the full Catalyst driver download ar did you just download
the first one in the list for slower connections.

If you did the latter then you are missing drivers. The unknown
device is the Video Capture part of the card. You need to download
all three of the packages listed for slower connections or the full
25.9 MB package listed for high speed connections.

Boot into safe mode, open device manager, remove all video devices, reboot
and let Windows re-identify and install the drivers.

The package that I downloaded from the ATI site was about
7.9 Mb, so I assume it was just the "first one in the
list". I will download and install the full set of ATI
drivers and report back.

Yes, that was it. I now have no "Unknown Devices" and
have acquired more tabs on my desktop properties settings
dialog than I know what to do with! Thanks to all for
your input. It's a pity Microsoft didn't either include
the full driver package on Windows Update or at least
flag up the fact that the package it did include was for
display drivers only.

Glad to hear that worked.

For future reference, do not get your driver updates from Windows
update. Many times I have seen the ones at Windows update be a full 2
versions behind the ones posted at the manufacturers website. It is
always best to get the drivers from the manufacturer's website.
