Problem with activation

Hi.

I am having a weird problem with activation. I have a retail upgrade copy of
XP Pro installed on my machine. Occasionally Windows decides that it needs
to reactivate due to significant hardware changes. This on most occasions
fails online and requires a phone call. The thing is absolutely nothing has
changed the computer has not physically been touched and no peripherals have
been removed or anything, yet windows still manages to generate a different
installation ID and require reactivating.
This problem has persisted despite a recent format and reinstall. It occurs
on average once a week but has occurred twice in a day on more than one
occasion.
The only solution I can think of is to "make" a corporate copy of XP and use
a generated CD Key thus bypassing activation, but I don't see why I should
have to resort to such practice when I have paid out a small fortune for the
legitimate copy I have. Has anyone got a better idea?

It would appear that *something* is damaging the recorded data in the
two files windows\system32\wpa.dbl and wpa.bak. These would make a
nasty target for malware, though I have no firm evidence of anything
doing so. I would make a backup copy of these files that you can easily
copy back if there is trouble, followed by a reboot

Demand a full refund and use software that work.
