Problem while installing Symantec Antivirus on USB HDD

Ankur

I've managed to install Windows XP SP2 on my USB HDD by following the
instructions at link http://www.ngine.de/index.jsp?pageid=4176. I
want to use Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition 10.0.1. When I
install antivirus and reboot the machine it just gives me blank screen
after the Windows XP loading screen. I've to revert to Last Known
Good Config to get my machine up but then Symantec won't work as it's
services are removed. I've tried re-installing antivirus couple of
times and had to remove it manually with the help of instructions for
manual removal at Symantec site. Does anyone has any idea why this
might be occuring and what can I do to resolve it.

I do not think you can fix this. XP was never "designed" to be
started from any "non-system" hard drive ports (IDE, SCSI, SATA,
eSATA.) USB and Firewire ports do not normall show up until "late" in
the boot sequence of XP.

Ask the folks that created the method of doing an unsupported install
how to get around yet another "gothcha".

XP is not designed to be run from an external USB drive. If you're having
problems it's not surprising. Maybe ask the folks whose procedure you
followed?
