Problem when opening in a file

Just wanted to raise this question.

We have an inbuilt application in our organization. IT is developed using
Java,Servlets(for pushing doc, xls..) and SQL server. The application has
links to all the documents we use
All the formats while pushed are in 2003 format.

When we access this application.
1> if my MS office is 2003 on my machine then clicking on any link in the
application it opens the xl without any problem
2> If i am using 2007 and when i click the link to open an xl it gives me
following message, no matter after saying "yes" for this message the file
opens. The message that occurs in dialog box says
"The file you are trying to open, 'FileViewer', is in a different format
than specified by the file extension.Verifiy that the file is not corrupted
and is from a trusted source before opening the file.Do you want to open the
file now'.

My question is does this message occur and i have to live with it, or is
there any way to get rid of this. IF so is there any settings i need to
ensure on Excel 2007 or is it something that the developer has to take care
in the development of the application.

Hi,

Just a guess - since Excel 2007 uses xlsx or xlsm extensions and 2003 xls,
maybe there is an inconsistancy somewhere in you application regarding these
extensions.

If you told it to open xls but the file is xlsx (or the reverse) you might
be prompted but still get Excel to open.
