Problem when copying cells that reference other cells

Suddenly, Excel won't copy cells correctly. For example, if cell A1 is set
to "= D1" in another open worksheet, and i drag A1 down to A2, then A2 should
now equal D2. Instead, A2 simply has the value shown in A1 even though cell
A2 shows "=D2"

What the heck is going on? Do i have a virus that none of my virus
protection programs is catching?

Help!!
 
Hi Rich,
It sounds like your calculation mode is set to manual.
Hit F9 or change the calc mode to automatic. See if that
makes a difference.
 
Press F9 -- you have calculation set to manual -- you can also use
tools/options/Calculation tab and select Automatic.
